Husbandry Almanac v 1.2.0

Unfortuantely, the Domestication feature is taking longer than anticpated to implement even before Hytale's Update 4.

While a great step in the right direction for Hytal by introducing animal taming in the vanilla game, these changes affected how the behaviors worked causing a rework of the growing and breeding systems for Hubandry Almanc.

This release is a non-backward compatiable release. Any Hytale versions that are not using Update 4 cannot use the new version of the mod and we are not able to work with the 1.2.0 version of Husbandry Almanc.

Tamed Animals - Breeding and Growing

The mod has been upgraded to ensure that tamed animals by players will breed and grow as expected. The following animals, tamed or not, will grow and breed as before:

  • Sheep

  • Chickens (and their desert variant)

  • Boars

  • Bison

  • Camels

  • Goats

  • Horses

  • Mouflons

  • Pigs (and their wild variant)

  • Rams

  • Skrills

  • Turkeys

  • Warthogs

  • Cows

  • Rabbits/Bunnies

New Breeding Balancing

While not anticipated, the changes to animals being tameable in vanillia has allowed us to make a change we were going to make once Domesitcation was complete, which was increase the maximum number of entities that can be in a range for tamed animals. These balance changes are to encourage players to build their own pens/barns/animal containment areas to bring animals home rather than leave them in the wild, while still keeping the untamed animals flock size larger than vanillia to keep a more living free wild.

  • Untamed animals have had the maximum number of specicies reduced from 10 to 8 within a 64x64x64 area.

  • Tamed animals have a maximum number of specicies set to 16.

We hope players will love the increase to their own tamed animals that they are keeping in their farms while still making exploring their area early game be viable until the farms are setup.

The Domestication feature is still going ahead, as the next major changes that will start to introduce a new workstation, new blocks, and new items in order to produce resources from the animals you'll be domesticating. Look for a preview video soon of what we have so far within the next couple of days or so!

Thank you all for the continued support and feedback! Happy animal raising!

Husbandry Almanac v 1.1.6

This release includes a couple of bug fixes that were causing animal species to grow past the limit. Alongside these bug fixies, there were adjustments to the number of ticks for some of the mechanices to align them with the intended real life duration, due to Hytale using 30 ticks-per-second as opposed to the assumed 20 ticks-per-second.

Minor Visual Update

As part of this update, logic to show pregnant animals has been added. Only a couple of animals have pregnant models and show, but the rest will follow as they are completed.

  • Cows now have a pregnant model visual

  • Chickens now have a pregnant model visual

Next Feature Target

The next targetted major feature will be the Domestication feature, to allow the groundwork for progression within the mod. The goal with the Domesitcation feature is to allow a controlled number of animals within a controlled area, ability to reduce the time between breeding and birthing, an increase in drops for animals, and a quality system for drops from animals.

Bug Fixes
  • Fixed a bug where newly spawned animal adults would instantly breed, reducing the breeding cycle time to faster than intended.

  • Fixed a bug where pregnant animals would not have their unborn children counted in the specicies limit. Now any animals checks unborn animals, adult animals, and child animals of their specicies to ensure that the limit is still met.

Correcting Breeding Ticks for Hytale
  • Increased the BaseBreedingCooldown, BaseBirthingTime from 36000 ticks to 54000 ticks.

  • Increased the BaseDomesticationTIme from 36000 to 72000 ticks.

  • Increased the DefaultTicksToGrow 24000 to 36000 ticks.

Breeding Adjustments
  • Reduced the maximum flock size of each specicies from 16 to 10.

  • Increaed the BaseDomesticationTime from 30 minutes to 45 minutes (tick number adjustment reflected in correcting breeding ticks).

The bug fix and breeding adjustments should help reduce lag when playing with multiple people while ensuring populations don't go over the new limit. With these adjustments and bugs resolved, we will now focus on delivering the next feature for the mod!

Husbandry Almanac v 1.1.0 - Breeding

The first iteration of the Breeding Mechanic has finished and released. Now every creature that has a baby form can be raised and breeds automatically, without players needing to interact. This is the base for of breeding without any of the additional planned features to make breeding more ineractive. Enjoy raising your small little homestead of animals!!!!

Breeding and Gestration Times

Animals can only breed once every 36,000 ticks and the gestration of a pregnant creature is also 36,000 ticks, which makes each part take around 30 minutes (or an hour in real time for both phases). While this number is high, it is to give some balancing room for the future content updates of the Husbandry Almanac mod. Based on feedback, we may reduce the times for both components while we develop the rest of the mod.

Passive Breeding and Limits

While the time for breeding and gestration is long, players do not need to do anything besides get two of the same specicies close together to breed! As long as the creatures are loaded, they will continue to breed.

This also applies to wildlife that you may not have in your base. Hytale has a flocking system where groups of creatures are spawned around your world. This mod gives the breeding capability to these wild animals as well. So if you don't want to keep them in your town, you can let the wildlife roam free and procreate. As long as you leave two of the specicies alive, they will eventually grow in number. Just remember that there are also hostile creatures that will attack passive mobs.

Currently the mod allows each flock to grow to a size of 16 creatures, which includes both the adult and child forms of each specicies. This is to help control performance for computers and this number may be adjusted later in the future as Hytale becomes more optimized or if there is enough player feedback to warrant reducing the number.

Finished Growing Mechanic

As part of this update, we have also finished adding growing mechanics to the creatures that had babies but were not included in the 1.0.6 version of the mod. Now all creatures that have a baby form will grow into their adult form, those in your base or in the wild.

Breedable Creature List

Below are the creatures from Hytale that you can passive breed and that grow in the wild if left unattended:

  • Sheep

  • Chickens (and their desert variant)

  • Boars

  • Bison

  • Camels

  • Goats

  • Horses

  • Mouflons

  • Pigs (and their wild variant)

  • Rams

  • Skrills

  • Turkeys

  • Warthogs

  • Cows

This should help you get a fun little homestead started to gather light leather and any vanilla materials that you need from specific creatures.

Husbandry Almanac v 1.0.6

The first iteration of the Growing Mechanic has been pushed to let people who have stockpiled baby chickens (the main target currenty) grow their chicks into chickens. This should improve the Chicken Coop resources!

Growing Updates

Growing times are currently set to 24,000 ticks, which is about 20 minutes in real-time. This is what Minecraft used so we based the time on that. In the future we hope to make this value confugurable for servers and balance it for different animals.

New Growth Mechanics For Certain mobs

Some of the animals have been implemented to have a growing mechanic. The list at the end of the post will detail which ones, but these animal babies will grow into their adult form!

Here are the little ones you can now raise on your farm:

  • Chicks growing into Chickens

  • Cow Calves growing into Cows

  • Horse Foals growing into Horses

  • Piglets growing into Pigs

  • Sheep Lambs growing into Sheep

Expect a minor update soon that should finish out the growth mechanic for the remaining livestock animals!
